Terms and conditions


All bookings are subject to the terms and conditions set out below. Acceptance of below conditions is implied when a booking is made.


1. Booking


1.1. In order to reserve a place on one of our walking tours, the customer must pay the specified deposit at the time of placing the booking. This deposit is non-refundable except in the case of cancellation of the tour by Adventures-Scotland Limited.


1.2. The full balance of the tour is due 42 days (6 weeks) prior to the start date of the tour.


1.3. If the full balance of the tour price is not received within 6 weeks of the start date of the tour, Adventures-Scotland Limited reserves the right to cancel the booking.


1.4. In accordance with EU Package Tour Regulations, your holiday pre-payments will be held in a separate account until your holiday is completed.



2. Modification or Cancellation of a walking tour by Adventure-Scotland Limited


2.1. Adventures-Scotland Limited undertakes not to cancel or modify any tour unless forced to do so by circumstances beyond its reasonable control.


2.2. In the event that we have to cancel a tour, the customer shall receive a full refund of the monies paid to us but will not be entitled to any further sum by way of compensation, damages or otherwise arising from said cancellation. This applies no matter when the tour is cancelled.


2.3. In the rare instance that accommodation for your tour is unavailable due to high demand,we may need to use alternative suppliers, incurring additional charges. If the possibility of additional charges arises, you will be notified of these and asked for your permission to proceed before Adventures-Scotland Limited continues with the booking.


2.4. Force Majeure: Where war or terrorist activities, threatened or actual, civil unrest, industrial action, threatened or actual, weather conditions, fire, flood, drought, epidemics and pandemics, airport regulations or closures, unforeseen alterations to public transport schedules and rescheduling of aircraft or any other event outside the control of the Adventures-Scotland Limited either delays or extends the tour or compels a change in prior arrangements, the Business cannot accept liability for any resulting loss, damage or expense
to the customer.



3. Customer Cancellation or Modification


3.1. Where the customer wishes to modify the walking tour arrangements Adventures-Scotland Limited had accepted and confirmed the booking, a minimum administration fee of £50) per booking will be applied. If any additional costs have been incurred by Adventures-Scotland Limited (e.g. administration, cancellation fees, etc.), these will also be charged to the customer. Any modifications will depend on alternative availability.


3.2. Modifications to tours that have been confirmed are not possible within 6 weeks of the tour start date.

3.3. Where the customer cancels the tour after Adventures-Scotland Limited has accepted the booking, or where Adventures-Scotland Limited cancels the tour due to customer non-payment, the following charges shall apply:


3.3.1. Over 6 weeks before tour start date: Adventures-Scotland Limited retains the full amount of your deposit payment


3.3.2. 6 to 4 weeks before tour start date: Adventures-Scotland Limited will refund you 50% of tour price


3.3.3. 4 to 2 weeks before tour start date: Adventures-Scotland Limited will refund you 20% of tour price


3.3.4. Less than 2 weeks before tour start date: No refund


4. If you are forced to return home early, we cannot refund the cost of any travel arrangements you have not used. If you cut short your holiday and return home early in circumstances where you have no reasonable cause for complaint about the standard of accommodation and services provided, we will not offer you any refund for that part of your holiday not completed, or be liable for any associated costs you may incur. Depending on the circumstances, your travel insurance may offer cover for curtailment and we suggest that any claim is made directly with them.


5. Safety


5.1. All our leaders are suitably qualified and experienced guides, however participants should note that hillwalking and mountaineering activities carry an inherent degree of risk. Walkabout Scotland cannot accept liability or responsibility for circumstances outwith our control and participants take part at their own risk.


5.2. You must let us know in advance if you have any illness or medical condition which may interfere with your walking ability. Participants whose fitness level is deemed to be unsuitable for the intended walking programme or who are deemed to have inadequate walking equipment, may at the discretion of the tour leader be asked to make alternative arrangements. No compensation will be offered to this. The weather in Scotland is highly variable and participants must be properly equipped.


5.3. In the interests of group safety all group members must abide by the decisions of the tour leader.


5.4. Please note that due to current government legislation we are currently unable to take anyone under the age of 18 without their legal guardian being present.



6. Tour information & Communication


6.1. This website includes general descriptions of the various tours available, specifically outlining the itinerary and services included in the price. Changes in any or all of these items may need to be made from time to time, and you should notify of this prior to your tour.


6.2. Our website contains statements representing its honest belief that the facts as shown are correct. Every reasonable effort has been made to fully describe the tours offered and every reasonable attempt will be made to honour what has been described.


6.3. Adventures-Scotland Limited reserves the right to make changes to the information, prices and itineraries set out in the website and provided such changes have been notified to the customer, such changes shall be binding on the parties.


6.4. Any likeness of you secured or taken on any of our tours or any imagery/media which you capture and share with us (e.g. either by email or on social media), may be used by Adventures-Scotland Limited without charge in all media, for bona fide promotional or marketing purposes, including without limitation promotional materials of any kind, such as brochures or on the Internet.


6.5. In the interests of continuing to offer the best possible standards of service, Adventures-Scotland Limited reserves the right to share, or not to share, any feedback or comments received from you with our business partners be they accommodation suppliers, luggage transfer providers, taxi drivers, walking trail maintenance, etc.



7. Luggage Transfer Service for tour that provide this service


7.1. Each customer of Adventures-Scotland Limited is entitled to one item of baggage to be transferred along the walking route during their tour. An upper weight limit of 15kg per person applies to the luggage transfer service included in all our walking tour packages. Adventures-Scotland Limited reserves the right to refuse the transfer of loads which exceed these limits.


7.2. Luggage will not be transferred to locations which are outside the tour itinerary you have booked. If you have booked an extra night’s accommodation in a location outside the tour itinerary, your baggage will not be transferred to or from this location.


7.3. Neither Adventures-Scotland Limited, its employees nor its agents can accept any liability relating to loss or damage of personal property during the transfer of luggage during your walking tour. For this reason, valuable or breakable items (e.g. jewellery, electronic devices,cash, etc.) should not be left in baggage due to be transferred.


7.4. Adventures-Scotland Limited strongly encourages you to take out adequate insurance cover prior to travel for loss or damage to personal property (see point 8).



8. Jurisdiction


8.1. This contract is made on the terms of these booking conditions which are governed by
Scottish Law and customers shall submit to the jurisdiction of the Scottish Courts.




9. Insurance


9.1. It is a condition of your contract with us that you must take out adequate travel insurance. You must be satisfied that your insurance fully covers all your personal requirements including pre-existing medical conditions, cancellation charges, curtailment, medical
expenses and repatriation in the event of injury, death or illness during your holiday with us. We do not check insurance policies for suitability, but reserve the right to request a copy.


9.2. You are responsible for indemnifying us in full in the event that we incur any losses or expenses arising out of your failure to take out adequate insurance cover. If you choose to travel without adequate insurance cover, we will not be liable for any losses howsoever
arising, in respect of which insurance cover would otherwise have been available.




10. Adventures-Scotland Limited’s Liability to the Customer


10.1. Although we take the greatest care to ensure that everything runs smoothly on your trip, accidents can happen. For this reason, Adventures-Scotland Limited strongly encourages you to take out adequate insurance cover as stated above prior to travel for loss
or damage to personal property, personal injury or illness, medical expenses and cancellation expenses. Please note that neither Adventures-Scotland Limited, its employees nor its agents can accept any liability relating to personal injury or illness, loss or damage to
personal equipment, or any other unforeseen events that occur during your tour.


10.2. Any information or advice provided by Adventures-Scotland Limited on matters such as walking routes, climate, clothing, travel documents, baggage, special equipment etc. is given in good faith but without responsibility on the part of the Business.


10.3. The customer accepts responsibility for obtaining any necessary visas and travel documents needed to allow them to take a tour with Adventures-Scotland Limited.
